Raiders awarded DE Takk McKinley off waivers

The third time is a charm for the Raiders and defensive end Takk McKinley. After being waived by the Falcons, Bengals and 49ers, the Raiders finally have McKinley on their roster after claiming him on Monday afternoon, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

General Manager Mike Mayock was a big fan of McKinley coming into the 2017 NFL Draft and so was defensive line coach Rod Marinelli. But is he healthy enough to help the team this season? The Bengals and 49ers both failed him in their physical examination due to a groin injury, so it will be interesting to see what happens in Las Vegas with the medical team.

If he is healthy enough to pass the team’s physical, McKinley could be a nice depth addition to a defensive line that needs more pass rushers. He was playing well in Atlanta before he requested a release from the team. Can Marinelli work his magic once again and get the most out of this former first-round pick? Only time will well. If nothing else, this is a worthwhile risk given his draft pedigree.
