Raiders agree to terms with former Eagles SS Marcus Epps

The Raiders made their first big signing of the week, agreeing to a deal with QB Jimmy Garoppolo. However, that wasn’t the only deal the team made on Monday.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the Raiders have agreed to terms with safety Marcus Epps. Epps played 1,239 snaps for the Eagles last season, grading out as one of the top run defenders in the league. The deal is worth up to $12 million over two years, according to Tom Pelissro.

Epps started all 17 games for the Raiders last season, but he struggled in coverage. According to Pro Football Focus, Epps had a coverage grade of just 44.7 during the 2022 season. However, he can be a big weapon as a run defender in the right system. He finished the 2022 season with 94 tackles and four tackles for a loss.

With Duron Harmon likely on his way out of Las Vegas, the Raiders needed another safety to pair with Epps. He’ll likely start with Trevon Moehrig at safety in 2023 for the Raiders.
