Raiders agree to deal with rookie top pick WR Henry Ruggs III

No ability for rookies to report means no physicals. No physicals means either they sign sight unseen or we wait until they are able to report before they sign. That report date is today. And with that, the Raiders have agreed to terms with their top pick, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

It’s interesting to report on a player agreeing to terms, but not yet signing a deal that is basically slotted. But the deal is expected to be official as soon as Ruggs is able to put pen to paper and due to the COVID-19 testing protocols, that could be a few days yet.

Normally these deals get signed by late May after the rookies have gone through Rookie Minicamp and some OTA practices. Then they get done so quickly, it’s like there’s a line outside the GM’s office. And usually, it happens in reverse order, with the lower round players signing first.

Ruggs was the team’s pick at No. 12 overall. He was the first of two first-round picks the team made. The other was cornerback Damon Arnette at No. 19 overall. In total, they have seven rookie draft picks to sign including three picks in the third round and two in Round 4.
