Maronite Patriarch Beshara Al-Rai called on the Lebanese to “make the electoral elections in May 2022 a unique opportunity to present our country with new ruling elites that will lead the new renaissance.”
“This is the real revolution that we support and work to unify its vision, direct its efforts, and see in it the desired future for Lebanon,” the patriarch said in his weekly Sunday sermon in Bkerki.
“What increases our resolve to support the lively and promising Lebanese forces is seeing our political leaders giving the ugliest image of Lebanon, rather the brightest evidence of their bankruptcy and inability to rule the people and the country,” he stated.
Rai noted that while the people “were waiting for the birth of a government, they watched instead a media play that revealed the wide gaps between the political community and the citizens.
“The people are searching for their fate, and the political community is looking for its interests. The people demand their bread and medicine, and the leaders making up the heresy of powers. Young people are looking for their future in Lebanon, their homeland, and the political community is looking for the future of its spoils and its survival in power,” he remarked.
While he said that officials are obstructing the formation of the government because of the dispute over constitutional powers, he asked: “What powers are you talking about? Do you want to feed the people with powers? Provide medicine with powers? Return the depositors’ money with powers? Stop the emigration? Securing fuel? Finding job opportunities?”
“We are not complaining about a lack of authority, but rather a lack of responsibility,” the patriarch stressed.
