PANAJI: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit Goa on Saturday to address a convention of active members, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar, said.
Gandhi’s visit to Goa assumes importance in the face of damages Congress has suffered from the entry of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the poll-bound state.
After its senior functionary and former chief minister Luizinho Faleiro parted ways and joined TMC for better prospects, Congress has seen several of its party workers across blocks following suit.
“Morale of the party workers has been down. It is expected that the visit of Gandhi will do damage control and discourage others who may be on their way out. His visit will be a morale booster,” said a party source.
Gandhi’s visit will coincide with the west Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s who will arrive in Goa on October 28.
