Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday targeted the Union government on Chinese incursions as well as its handling of COVID-19.
Reacting to a report published in The Hindu on Monday, Mr Gandhi said in a tweet that India was paying the price as the government was ‘lying asleep’.
On Monday, in an exclusive report, The Hindu noted that China’s move into the Galwan Valley, Pangong lake area and other areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) were planned for months and followed a new mobilisation order issued by President Xi Jinping.
“He’s ‘lying’ asleep. And India is paying for it,” Mr. Gandhi tweeted without naming who the Congress referred to as ‘He’. But the tweet sought to convey that India’s was ‘sleeping’ and caught unawares while China was building up its military presence on the borders.
In a separate tweet, he attacked the government on COVID-19 management and questioned if India was in a good position to battle the virus.
“India at good position in COVID19 battle?” he said as he tagged a graph of India's daily average cases that showed a steady rise while other countries like South Korea and New Zealand were showing a steady decline in cases.
Mr. Gandhi’s tweet on the pandemic came a day after Home Minister Amit Shah said India was in a “good position” in the battle against the virus and the country would battle it with ‘determination and enthusiasm’.
