Rahul Gandhi effect? Now Nana Patole limits ‘solo’ talk to civic polls

MUMBAI: State Congress president Nana Patole on Tuesday said the Congress will contest elections to civic bodies independently. However, there appeared to be a slight climbdown from his earlier stand after his meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the presence of AICC general secretaries K C Venugopal and H K Patil in New Delhi.

So far, Patole had claimed that the Congress would contest civic elections as well as the 2024 Lok Sabha and assembly elections independently.

On Tuesday, however, he said that while still there is time for the 2014 Lok Sabha and assembly elections, the Congress will certainly contest the civic polls independently. “The Lok Sabha and assembly elections are far away, we will contest all the ensuing civic polls independently,” Patole said.

Patole reiterated that his phone was tapped during the tenure of Devendra Fadnavis as chief minister.
