Rahul Gandhi attacks BJP over ‘Jai Shri Ram’, party takes dig at his ‘limited knowledge’

NEW DELHI: Several BJP leaders on Sunday lashed out at Rahul Gandhi as they claimed he had “limited Knowledge” about Hindu mythology and traditions after the Congress MP made a statement, questioning why BJP and RSS chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ instead of ‘Jai Siya Ram’.

Gandhi said in Madhya Pradesh that BJP and RSS don’t respect Sita and women, so they don’t chant ‘Jai Siya Ram’.

Reacting to his remarks, a minister in Madhya Pradesh and a senior BJP leader Narottam Mishra took a jibe at Gandhi, saying, “I think Rahul Gandhi’s knowledge is only limited to children’s rhyme ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’. The name of Ram is prefixed with ‘Shri’. ‘Shri’ is also used for Lord Vishnu’s wife Lakshmi and Sita ji.”

“Since Rahul Gandhi has neither bothered to read the ‘Ramayana’ or the ‘Geeta’, he should at least browse on the internet for a description of the prefix ‘Shri’. He must have picked up something told by a temple priest, who prepared a cake and got it cut by (former Madhya Pradesh chief minister) Kamal Nath,” Mishra said.

Several other leaders also reacted and claimed that not only did “Shri” mean the goddess but most of them used both versions including PM Modi, who has often been heard chanting “Jai Siya Ram”.

Speaking at a rally in the Agar Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh on Friday, Rahul said, “They (RSS) chant ‘Jai Shri Ram and not ‘Jai Siya Ram’ as there is no woman member in their organisation."
