Raheem Sterling: Watch Man City star's incredible miss in Champions League exit to Lyon

Raheem Sterling inexplicably missed a glorious chance to level from six yards out as Manchester City crashed out of the Champions League with a 3-1 defeat to Lyon.

With Pep Guardiola's side searching for a first Champions League triumph, a stunning Kevin De Bruyne strike cancelled out Maxwel Cornet's first-half opener.

However, in searching for a late winner, the Manchester club fell behind once more as substitute Moussa Dembele slotted through the legs of Ederson, the goal standing despite a lengthy VAR check for a potential foul on Aymeric Laporte.

It took City 55 minutes to equalise after Lyon's opener. This time they only had 11 plus stoppage time. They created the chance to level, however, and it fell exactly to their prime marksman.

Sterling, who has scored a staggering 31 goals this season in his most prolific campaign to date, had the goal at his mercy following a Gabriel Jesus cross from the right.

With Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes utterly stranded, Sterling sent the ball flying over the bar in perhaps the miss of the Champions League campaign - certainly the most important one.

To Sterling and City's horror, Dembele then put the game beyond doubt less than a minute later after a catastrophic Ederson error.

In defeat, City's Champions League story once again comes to an end, while Lyon now go on to face arguably the tournament favourites in Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
