Raheem Sterling trolls Manchester United defender Phil Jones after Man City Champions League win

When Raheem Sterling was brought off the bench during Manchester City's Champions League win over Dinamo Zagreb, he won't have been expecting to make much of an impact.

City were safely 3-1 up and content with seeing the victory out in Croatia to avoid any unnecessary bookings or injuries. As it happens, Phil Foden's late goal added the gloss on a comfortable evening, with Sterling barely breaking sweat after replacing Rodri.

Still, the England man had the time to fire an effort on goal in his 17 minute cameo, in which he operated in a central striker's role. An image of the effort was perfect for a post-match social media post that City players regularly produce after games.

Sterling clearly fancied something different to the standard motivational message, however, as he used the photo to compare his facial expression to one from Manchester United defender Phil Jones.

Jones has become infamous for his expressions on the pitch, and Sterling clearly appreciates the pictures of his England teammate that often go viral.

The image shared by Sterling has a similar expression as he fires off his shot on Wednesday night, and he couldn't resist a cheeky tweet after the game.

In four images, he zoomed in on his own face - as photos of Jones often are - with the caption: "Phil Jones would be proud" plus three laughing emojis.

The tweet clearly went down well, with Sterling later posting to Instagram to say: "Great team performance tonight. On to the 1/8 #UCL."
