Raheem Sterling targeted by objects thrown from crowd after scoring for Man City vs Wolves

Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling had objects thrown at him from the crowd after opening the scoring in the Premier League encounter against Wolves.

City were reduced to ten-men after just 14 minutes after Ederson was given his marching orders for a foul on Diogo Jota outside the area as the forward raced clear.

Shortly after, Riyad Mahrez went down in the penalty area but referee Martin Atkinson initially waved away his claims. However, a penalty was awarded after VAR review.

Sterling stepped up and missed at the first attempt but a retake was ordered for encroachment. The England international converted the rebound on his second try but had objects thrown from the crowd during his celebration.

The objects were given to Atkinson who handed them over to the officials on the touchline.

The PA announcer at Molineux warned both sets of supporters about their behaviour.

Amazon Prime Sport showed on the live broadcast the objects on the field were thrown by supporters from the crowd which appeared to be a hip flask.

It is the second incident in a matter of weeks after Manchester United players were targeted at the Etihad Stadium during the Manchester derby earlier in December.
