Raheem Sterling 'suffered racist abuse' during England win over Bulgaria at Wembley

Raheem Sterling was allegedly racially abused during England's win over Bulgaria.

Manchester City forward Sterling starred in the 4-0 victory at Wembley, scoring once and setting up another for teammate Harry Kane.

A man was ejected from the away section and arrested after he was allegedly overheard using racist language about Sterling.

The Standard reports he was taken to a north London police station on suspicion of an aggravated public order offence but was released without charge.

Sterling and boss Gareth Southgate are believed to have been made aware of the incident at full time.

A statement from an FA spokesperson read: "An individual seated in the away section was ejected and arrested for discriminatory abuse during the England v Bulgaria match.

"Wembley Stadium operates a zero tolerance policy on anti-social and discriminatory behaviour and anyone found guilty will be ejected and reported to the police.”

Sterling has emerged as an anti-racism campaigner after a string of incidents during matches for club and country.

A Chelsea fan was banned for life for using racist language towards Sterling following a high-profile incident in December 2018.

The 24-year-old and teammate Danny Rose were also targeted during England's win in Montenegro in March.

Sterling continued his excellent goalscoring form with the equaliser in the 5-3 win over Kosovo on Tuesday night.

He now has six goals in just four Euro 2020 qualifying matches for England.

Sterling also has five Premier League goals to his name after a stunning start to the season for Pep Guardiola's champions.
