Raheem Sterling's message to Ian Poveda following Leeds United transfer

Raheem Sterling sent a parting message to Ian Poveda after the winger departed Manchester City for Leeds United last month.

Poveda ended his contract at Etihad Stadium five months before its expiry to move to Elland Road permanently on a contract which runs until the summer of 2024.

The 19-year-old has previously gone on the record with his respect and admiration for Sterling, who has acted as something of a mentor for him.

The England international wished Poveda all the best through his Instagram page, a few hours after the transfer was confirmed.

In a story published on Christmas Eve through City’s official website, Poveda described Sterling as a big brother to him.

“Raheem’s like my big bro,” he said. “I appreciate him a lot, with everything he’s done.

“The small advice he gives me in training sessions, it just shows that he cares. I appreciate it, even if I don’t tell him.

“I listen a lot and think it’s true and then I try to implement it in my game all the time.

“I’m glad Raz helps me out. He’s a real good guy. It’s tips on the pitch, like positioning, what to do.

“Off the pitch as well, he gives me great advice. He knows I’m a young player and there are certain things that I haven’t experienced yet.

“I feel like he helps me a lot and I appreciate that.”
