Raheem Sterling says he was "buzzing" for Liverpool after the Reds upset the odds to dump Barcelona out of the Champions League.
Manchester City forward Sterling started his senior career on Merseyside, making 129 appearances for Liverpool before leaving in acrimonious circumstances in 2015.
He joined City for £50million and has gone on to establish himself as one of the Premier League's best players.
City are locked in a fierce battle with Liverpool for the Premier League title, which will be decided on the final day of the season this weekend.
The Blues travel to Brighton knowing a win will seal the deal, but should they drop points, Liverpool can trump them by beating Wolves at Anfield.
Despite the bubbling rivalry, Sterling says he was happy for his old club after two goals apiece for Divock Origi and Gini Wijnaldum saw them overcome a 3-0 first-leg deficit to beat Barca.
"I was really happy for Liverpool, I was buzzing," Sterling said after picking up the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award on Thursday.
"People might not believe me but it’s true.
"Seeing some of the boys like Hendo and Trent in the final makes me happy, I’m really happy for them."
Liverpool will face Tottenham in the final, who beat City in the quarters, after Spurs got the better of Ajax in similarly dramatic circumstances.
Mauricio Pochettino's side needed three goals in the second half of the second leg in Amsterdam, and Lucas Moura's hat-trick sent them to Madrid.
