Raheem Sterling responds to Player of the Year talk after stellar Man City season

Raheem Sterling has heaped praise on his manager Pep Guardiola after a stellar season for Manchester City that has seen him tipped for individual glory.

The England superstar has been a shining light in City’s Quadruple-chasing squad this term, scoring 19 goals and notching 16 assists in all competitions.

That form has seen him emerge as one of the favourites behind frontrunner Virgil van Dijk for the PFA Player of the Year accolade this campaign.

He’s also in the running for the FWA Footballer of the Year award, with the player playing a pivotal role on and off the pitch this season.

Sterling has earned widespread support for his stand on the subject in the wake of racist abuse he encountered during England's Euro 2020 qualifier in Montenegro.

And the former Liverpool forward has thanked his team-mates and manager for allowing him to flourish.

“Being in such an amazing team, great coach, being in an environment where I’m constantly learning," he said.

"To have someone who trusts you, gives that encouragement to always want to do better, to never, ever stand still, always keep you on your toes, there’s no better place to be.

"Someone like Pep always keeps you on your toes and you never feel comfortable.

“Playing in the Champions League every year is always a massive bonus.

“It’s an unbelievable competition to be involved in and to be at a stage like this is special, a special thing that we just need to stay focused (for) and try to enjoy it as much as we can."
