Raheem Sterling misses training but quartet feature as Chelsea prepare to face Borussia Dortmund

Raheem Sterling and David Datro Fofana both sat out Chelsea training just over 24 hours before the Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund.

The Blues hosted an open training session on Tuesday morning before flying out to Germany, where the first leg of their last-16 tie takes place.

There had been hopes that Sterling, 28, will return from a minor knee injury for the match having sat out the draw at West Ham.

Mykhailo Mudryk continued in the Chelsea line-up in his team-mate’s absence as Noni Madueke made his first start, but the former PSV winger is not registered for the Champions League along with fellow new signing Fofana.

Another player not eligible to face Dortmund who was spotted in training was Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

He joined a quartet of players looking to make their return from injury.

Mateo Kovacic has not played in a month due to a calf issue and he restarted training last week, along with Wesley Fofana who once again appeared on Tuesday.

Denis Zakaria and Kalidou Koulibaly were also spotted in the open session, the Senegalese defender having missed the West Ham trip with illness.
