Raheem Sterling leads new anti-racism campaign calling for change at the top of football

Raheem Sterling is leading a huge new anti-racism campaign calling for change at the top of football.

Sterling together with the likes of Gary Lineker, Jordan Henderson and Jadon Sancho have made a powerful video highlighting the lack of black people in positions of power in various different sports bodies.

England star Sterling helps deliver a message saying that they are “tired” of calling for change and are urging the Government to get involved as he stressed: “I will never tire of being black.”

It is highlighted that out of all the United Kingdom’s major national sporting governing bodies - including the Football Association, Lawn Tennis Association and UK Athletics - there are only three black board members from more than 120 positions.

Sterling has been one of the leading voices in the fight against racism.

He has chosen now to launch another major campaign across social media as it is on the eve of the Premier League restarting.

They have got some of the biggest names in football to back the campaign as a third of all Premier League players are black but none of the FA’s 11 board members are black.

It is now a push for real change which has received backing from football’s biggest names.

And it is certain to highlight the issue on the back of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany, Kevin De Bruyne, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, David Alaba, Gael Clichy and Lucy Bronze all appear in the one-minute video.

They have a combined social media following in excess of 60 million across Twitter and Instagram and it launched on Tuesday night with a powerful public message.

They hope that it will push the Government into action.

It will also seize on the momentum created by Sterling’s strong words to the BBC’s Newsnight programme last week and also Marcus Rashford pushing the Government into a U-turn on free school meals for kids.
