Raheem Sterling in full agreement with Pep Guardiola about Mikel Arteta ahead of Arsenal clash

Manchester City star Raheem Sterling is expecting Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta to have a trick or two up his sleeve on Wednesday night.

The Gunners return after more than three months away on Wednesday evening when they head to the Etihad Stadium to take on second-place City.

For Arsenal boss Arteta, it's very much familiar surroundings, being Pep Guardiola's former assistant.

And City forward Sterling admits he is expecting the Arsenal boss to pull out all the stops with the Spaniard knowing the Citizens' current crop inside-out.

Mikel Arteta confident Arsenal can reach 'right agreement' with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

"It's definitely going to be a strange one," Sterling told BBC 5Live.

"He knows us inside-out. He will definitely have something up his sleeve, but we are ready and we are focused, and we have to try to get the result we want."

Sterling also spoke about just how strange it will be to play a Premier League match in an empty Etihad Stadium.

"It's going to be weird, for sure, it's going to be weird," he added.

"We played a training game, a couple of training games and it is a bit strange.

"But when it is competition time, we have got to dig deep and find something to motivate us and drive us on."

City boss Guardiola has also admitted that Arteta will be all too familiar with his methods.

"I'm so excited to see him, one of the nicest people I ever met. It was a joy for me and for all of us to work with him," Guardiola said.

"The feeling I have is he's happy there and doing an incredible job. I'm looking forward to seeing him.

"He knows absolutely everything of us, he was an incredibly important part of our success, he helped us to be who were were and who we are.

"We are delighted he will come back, especially if he is happy there. We sent a message an hour and a half ago. It was about the wine we are going to drink after the game if social distance allows."
