Raheem Sterling hints at longer Man City future after previous transfer talk

Raheem Sterling is targeting 200 Premier League goals after scoring his 100th last weekend.

The development comes after Sterling suggested he would be open to leaving Manchester City earlier this season if he didn't get the increased game time he wanted. Since then, however, he has fought his way back into Pep Guardiola's side and has returned to be among the goals.

After scoring his 100th Premier League goal in the win over Wolves last weekend, Sterling has confirmed his place as one of the Premier League's best players and has immediately set his sights on increasing his tally.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "It's been incredible. I said growing up, all I ever wanted to do was be a professional football player.

"You make your debut against Wigan and that's your target, from there it's onto the next one like scoring your first goal. After that, there's always more to achieve.

"Getting into the 100 club, I think it's an incredible achievement but at 27, there's still a lot of things to achieve.

"I'm always looking for the next thing. That's how I've always been since I was younger, I always set myself targets and once you've met them, you need to move onto the next thing. That's all we can do, what's in front of us and how can we achieve the next.

"I'm looking forward to what the next couple of years can bring. I need to make sure I maintain that level. I've reached 100 now and that's all well and good, but I want to keep chipping away and keep doing more and winning.

"Get as close to 200 as possible! I've got to score at least 18 to 20 goals a season and keep chipping away. If you can get double digits for multiple seasons, you've got a chance of winning it."

Sterling is yet to sign a new contract at City, with 18 months remaining on his current deal, but his ambitions of increasing his goal tally in the Premier League will raise confidence that he will stay.

Speaking in October over his future, he said: "I’m not a person that’s going to complain. I’ve not tried to make it a bigger deal than it actually is.

"If I want my happiness at a certain level I need to be playing football. I need to be scoring goals and enjoying myself.

"If there was the opportunity to go somewhere else for more game time I would be open to it at this moment in time. As I said, football is the most important thing to me — challenges that I have set myself from a young age and dreams as well.

"As an English player all I know is the Premier League and I’ve always thought you know maybe one day I’d love to play abroad to see how I would come up against that challenge."
