Dimitar Berbatov heaped praise onto Raheem Sterling following his excellent showing for England in their semi-final win over Denmark at Wembley on Wednesday.
The Three Lions won 2-1 after extra-time to send them through the Euro 2020 decider thanks to an own goal forced by Bukayo Saka and Sterling and a Harry Kane penalty that was won by the Manchester City winger.
Although the controversial penalty decision drew the scorn of non-England supporters, it doesn't take away from the pivotal role the 26-year-old played across 120 minutes of action.
Berbatov, who almost signed for City before penning a deadline day deal with Manchester United in 2008, explained why he thought the winger was the best player on the pitch.
"Raheem Sterling was England's most impressive player in the semi-final," the Bulgarian told Betfair .
"I thought his running was unbelievable. He was a threat throughout the match and was still pushing deep into extra-time."
When asked whether he would be rooting on England against Italy in the final, Berbatov was emphatic in his response: "Of course I f*****g am!
"I played half my career in England and I loved the country, the people and I still love going back. The players deserve to win. Between now and Sunday they must rest and prepare mentally for the game of their lives."
