Raheem Sterling gives Man City huge injury boost ahead of Real Madrid clash

Raheem Sterling is set to give Manchester City a huge boost as he will be fit to face Real Madrid.

England star Sterling has been missing because of a hamstring injury suffered at Tottenham three weeks ago.

But despite being rested for Saturday’s win at Leicester, Sterling is fit for the huge Champions League clash at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.

That will be a massive lift for Pep Guardiola who has even greater incentive to get past Real Madrid with City facing a two year European ban after this season.

Back in 2014, former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers put a raft of big names on the bench and Sterling and Steven Gerrard only came on as substitutes when Liverpool lost to Real Madrid in the Group stages.

Sterling was also a substitute when City lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League semi final in 2016 but now the England star is central to Guardiola’s European campaign.

Real Madrid have been eyeing Sterling and Wednesday night is being seen as an audition in the Bernabeu especially after the City winger was complimentary about the Spanish giants in an interview last week.

But Sterling has already pledged his commitment to City following on from Guardiola also insisting he will stay at the Etihad despite the impending European ban.

City are adamant they will appeal and overturn the European ban imposed by UEFA for Financial Fair Play breaches.
