Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling has admitted he was ‘buzzing’ for former side Liverpool after their Champions League heroics.
The Reds fought back from a 3-0 defeat in the first-leg to win 4-0 at Anfield, sealing a clash with Tottenham Hotspur in next month’s Champions League final.
Sterling , formerly of Liverpool, is not remembered fondly by all fans on Merseyside after leaving to join City in 2015 but he made a classy response when asked what his reaction was to the result after picking up the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year award.
"I was really happy for Liverpool, I was buzzing,” he said.
"People might not believe me but it’s true. Seeing some of the boys like Hendo and Trent in the final makes me happy, I’m really happy for them."

City travel to face Brighton in the Premier League’s finale on Sunday, where they know a victory will see them become the first side to successfully defend their crown in a decade, and Sterling admitted it is an advantage to have fate in their own hands.
"We know how big an occasion it is. But I’d much rather be on our side, to know if we win the game it’s ours,” he explained.
"It will be a tough day, that’s for sure. We know Brighton won’t just sit there and let us score goals.
"They’re safe and it is going to be a really tough day, to be honest with you, but it is one I am really looking forward to."
