Raheem Sterling dedicates goal to friend as she dies from Covid aged 26

Raheem Sterling dedicated his goal in last night's World Cup qualifying match to his late friend Steffie Gregg.

The footballer ripped his top off to reveal a T-shirt reading "Love you forever Steffie Gregg" while celebrating his goal during England's 4-0 win over Hungary.

The 26-year-old niece of Jamaican producer and singer Rvssian tragically passed away earlier this week from complications after testing positive for Covid-19.

The Manchester City star was booked for taking off his jersey to reveal the tribute in the 55th minute.

He was then pelted with plastic cups and objects as the fans jeered the England players who ran across to celebrate with Sterling.

He later shared several pictures of his goal celebration and top afterwards on Twitter, captioning them with a love heart and prayer emoji and the words: “This one was for you SVG.”

The Twitch streamer’s death on August 31 in Miami shocked many in Jamaica.

Steffie, who suffered from autoimmune disease Lupus, died from complications after contracting coronavirus, local reports suggest.

Rvissian wrote in a social media post announcing Steffie's death and warning "COVID is REAL".

Steffie was also a well-known businesswoman and well-known member of her community of Upper St Andrew in the country's capital.

Sterling, who was born in Kingston, was known to be a good friend of hers.

Her father is former race car driver Gary Gregg as well as her brother Kyle 'Speedy' Gregg.

Steffie has previously watched Sterling play for City as she had shared images of herself on Instagram of her wearing a City shirt with his name and number on the back.

One of her most recent pictures is with boyfriend Naldo Banks wishing him a happy birthday.

Rvissian's heartbreaking tribute read: "I feel helpless my little Steffie. I feel I failed you and couldn't protect you from this.. COVID is REAL."

He continued: "You don't know until it hits home I lost you and daddy in the same week. You were one of the happiest persons ever & always had a great vibe & you lit the room up with your energy.

"You taught my daughter Adri the wine dance moves haha you guys remind me so much of each other.

"The hardest part was explaining to her that she will never be with you again was so hard when she cried out for you She loved you so much and looked up to you.

"It broke my heart …when u was a 6/7 years old me & xav & kyle [sic[ use to say we would always have the shotgun ready for any of the boys who bother you.

"But you grew into a beautiful young lady who had all them at your feet, and we use to laugh about that together. Your mom is one of the strongest women I know & you got that from her - literal twins…

"I promise to take care of her for you because she lost her dad and you her daughter in one week and that can break anyone."
