Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Raheem Sterling after agreeing personal terms with the Manchester City winger.

A £45million fee has not yet been fully finalised between the two clubs, but is expected to be in the near future.

Sterling has thoroughly enjoyed his time at Manchester City and will leave the club under good terms, with talks over his future understood to be amicable.

The England winger has made the decision to match his personal ambitions of starting week in, week out.

Sterling remains hugely ambitious and wants to win the Champions League, while he has aspirations of competing for the Ballon d’Or too.

The 27-year-old, who has one year left on his contract at Manchester City, viewed this next move as a crucial one in his career.

Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain all registered an interest in Sterling, but Chelsea won the race.

Barca’s move broke down due to financial logistics, while Bayern and PSG’s moves were dependent on the movement of other players.

Sterling’s decision was not fuelled by money, but his desire to be playing regularly and competing for major honours.

The winger appreciated Chelsea’s strong interest in wanting to sign him and he held positive talks with boss Thomas Tuchel.

The German is understood to have made a very enticing pitch to Sterling about how he sees him fitting into the Chelsea team.

Sterling was impressed by Tuchel and appreciates City for giving him the time and chance to decide his future.
