Raheem Sterling backs Liverpool to push Manchester City all the way in Premier League title race

Raheem Sterling has backed Liverpool to push Manchester City all the way to the wire as both teams bid to win the Premier League title.

The former Reds attacker, who is having an excellent season at the Etihad, scored twice for his side against Crystal Palace as they ran out 3-1 winners and returned briefly to the top of the domestic table on Sunday - before Jurgen Klopp's side produced a phenomenal second-half display to beat Chelsea 2-0 at Anfield and retake pole position.

Liverpool have 85 points after 34 games and City are two points behind but have a game in hand.

Sterling feels the title rivals will continue matching each other stride for stride over what is almost guaranteed to be an intense run-in for both teams.

"Yes, 100 per cent, the way Liverpool have been playing it will go down to the wire," he said.

"I don't see us slowing down now. Liverpool have a great squad, great self-belief, but so do we."

Pep Guardiola's men still boast a game in hand, but with their next two league fixtures coming at home to Tottenham Hotspur and away at Manchester United, the Reds ensured the pressure remains firmly on the reigning champions as they look to avoid any slip-ups in the run-in.

Liverpool's next two league matches are away at Cardiff before they welcome already relegated Huddersfield to Anfield.

On paper, at least, the Reds have the easier next two games.

City then head to Burnley before playing Leicester at home and then heading south to Brighton on the last day of the season - while Liverpool will face Rafa Benitez's Newcastle in the North-East before hosting Wolves in the final match of their campaign.
