There won’t be a trade or holdout for 49ers running back Raheem Mostert. His agent tweeted on Monday that Mostert and the team worked out their differences that led to a public trade request in early July.
“Just finalized a new deal for Raheem Mostert with the San Francisco 49ers,” Mostert’s agent Brett Tessler wrote on Twitter. “Happy we got things worked out and looking forward to him having another great season there. Thanks to the organization for taking care of him.”
Mostert signed a three-year deal worth $8.7 million prior to the 2019 season when he was primarily expected to contribute on special teams. His displeasure with his deal was derived from his team-leading 772 rushing yards on 170 carries last season, and his 220-yard, four-touchdown performance in the NFC championship game.
Tessler and Mostert wanted a reworked deal that pushed Mostert’s salary somewhere closer to the top-paid running back on the 49ers. Tevin Coleman is the team’s highest-paid RB at $4.55 million per season.
NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported the new contract will be largely incentive-based.
A new deal made sense for the 28-year-old, and for the 49ers who needed to maintain a deep stable of running backs to help duplicate the success they had on the ground last season.
