Raheem Morris shares the key to stopping the Colts’ offense

The Chicago Bears weren’t a team that struck much fear in the Rams’ defense in Week 1, lacking many playmakers on offense outside of David Montgomery and Allen Robinson. The Colts aren’t exactly loaded on that side of the ball, either, but they have Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines in the backfield, who are both explosive players in the running game and as receivers.

The Seahawks found a way to slow down Indianapolis’ offense in their Week 1 win, sacking Carson Wentz three times and landing 10 total hits on him over the course of the game. Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris knows the importance of forcing the Colts to play off-schedule, saying that’s the key to beating them on Sunday.

“You have to get them off-schedule,” he said Thursday. “If you could find a way to get any offense off-schedule, but particularly this one because of how ball control can be with the two backs. If you get these guys off-schedule and force them to do a couple of things that they don’t want to do. Like they got off-schedule last week in the second half, you’ll have an opportunity to dictate the terms. If we can find a way to get these guys off-schedule in order to go out there and dictate terms, I like our chances with the Rams.”

The Rams have the pass rushers and secondary to contain this Colts offense, which starts with their ground game. If Los Angeles can grab a lead early on and force the Colts to throw the ball, similar to the way the Seahawks dictated the game last week, it will give the Rams a great chance to win.
