Raging woman threw TRIFLE at hotel Christmas party before biting police officer

An irate woman sank her teeth into a policeman's hand after she responded to a call about her throwing food during a work party event, a court heard this week.

Raging Scotswoman Lianne Bell, 40, attended a Christmas party at the Grosvenor Hotel in Edinburgh on December 23, in which she reportedly catapulted trifle - alongside sausage rolls and other foods - during a chaotic episode.

Police were immediately called to the West End landmark and found the thrown food strewed all over the floor, reports the Daily Record.

As cops arrived to the venue to detain Bell, the 40-year-old shockingly sank her teeth into the hand of a female constable.

On Monday, Bell appeared at Edinburgh city’s sheriff court and admitted assault, obstructing officers, and acting in a threatening or abusive manner.

Fiscal depute Christine Brownlie confirmed the festive party took place towards the end of December, and noted that Bell was there.

Ms Brownlie continued to tell the court that it was at around 2.30pm when Bell began remonstrating with a staff member about her phone being stolen. Despite other hotel staff trying to intervene and "calm the situation", Bell instead became "agressive" at their attempts to assister her.

Ms Browlie said: “There was food at the party. The accused has begun to throw food in the hotel foyer, which included a trifle.

"It made a mess on the floor."

The court also heard that Bell left the foyer of the hotel, and police later arrived in Grosvenor Street where the plush venue is located.

Upon entering, officers observed the trifle and sausage rolls on the floor and Bell was escorted from the building, Ms Brownlie added.

She said Bell tried to “pull away from the officers” and bit Pc Claire Mitchell to the right hand.

Officers tried to place Bell in their van, the court was told, but she kicked out to prevent the doors being closed.

The prosecutor said Bell tried to bite Pc Robert Thomson and was restrained.

Sheriff Peter McCormack deferred sentence on Bell, of Dunfermline, Fife, until next month for reports.
