Raging Scots dad mowed down men he believed sold drugs to son after rounding up vigilante posse

A raging Scots dad ran down three men after rounding up a masked vigilante posse to tackle a gang he believed had sold drugs to his son.

Craig Topen, 42, smashed his Land Rover Freelander through a fence and into one of the men.

He deliberately crashed into a second man before getting out of the car and punching and kicking the third man, then whacking him with a golf club.

Topen, who runs a joinery firm, admitted carrying out the attack which left Ilian Iliev scarred for life.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard Topen led a masked gang to the home of Iliev’s friend as he had been told he had been the cause of his son’s drug-related debts.

The court was told Topen drove at Iliev and his friends Kenneth McCluskey and Liam Cuthbert after being confronted by them outside the property.

The accused then “repeatedly struck” Iliev’s head and body with a golf club, leaving him with three wounds to his scalp needing 10 stitches.

Topen, from Dundee, admitted acting with others and, with their faces masked, attacking McCluskey, Cuthbert and Iliev in the city’s Craigmount Road on November 15, 2019.

He admitted mounting the pavement and driving at them before striking them with the vehicle, then getting out and attacking Iliev with a golf club.

He also admitted having an offensive weapon, namely the golf club.

Sheriff Alistair Carmichael deferred sentence on Topen for reports and he was granted bail.
