Raging Rod Stewart superfan travelled 4000 miles from Canada for cancelled Aberdeen gig

A raging Rod Stewart superfan travelled from Canada for the rock legend’s Aberdeen gig only to find out it was cancelled due to high winds.

Linda Livingstone forked out $1000 to travel more than 4,000 miles from her home in Port Coquitlam, near Vancouver, for Rod’s only Scottish tour date.

But the promoters were forced to postpone the rocker’s outdoor gig at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre this morning.

High winds and rain are to blame for wrecking Rod’s first gig in the city for a decade.

Linda, 68, told the Record: “I’m devastated.

“I booked my trip to Aberdeen around this gig and now I won’t make the new date in July.

“I’m so disappointed and have spent a lot of money on this.”

Overlooking the North Sea, the venue was being battered by wind and rain leaving organisers fearing for Rod and the crowd’s safety.

Die-hard fan Linda left Aberdeen with her late husband for a new life across the pond 40 years ago where they brought up two children.

She’s been to all but one of Rod’s gigs in Vancouver but always wanted to see the legend perform in her home town.

Linda added: “No matter how long you’ve been away, if your from Aberdeen then that will always be home.

“I come back every four years or so to visit family and was going to the gig with my sister Carol, 60.

“But this was a special visit as I’d finally see Rod in Aberdeen, I’ve never seen him perform in Scotland before.

“I’ve loved Rod since The Faces days, I’ve got lots of memorabilia including t-shirts back home in Canada.

“With Rod you never know when his last concert, tour or album will be.

“It’s a real shame.”

In a statement, the promoters said: “We apologise for the inconvenience this causes everyone but safety is our priority.”

The concert will now be held next month (July) on Tuesday, July 16 with all tickets valid for that date.

Ticket holders are not required to take any action.

Customers requiring assistance are requested to contact their point of purchase.

The 74-year-old is due to be the last act to play at the AECC before it moves to the new P&J Live complex near Aberdeen Airport.

He’s on a tour promoting his 30th studio album, Blood Red Roses.
