Raging Edinburgh local blasts 'awful insult' left on bin targeting city's swans

A raging Edinburgh local has blasted graffiti left on a bin targeting the city's swans - and it didn't go unnoticed by one of the neighbouring long-necked birds.

The father swan - whose official name is a cob - was snapped looking absolutely furious, and slightly intimidating, while his cygnets rested on the grass nearby.

And, it's no wonder because in the foreground of the picture there is a litter bin with the words "manky swan" sprayed across it.

An angry passerby, who shared the image with Edinburgh Live's sister site the Daily Record, took the photo last night as she passed by the Union Canal at Fountainbridge.

She said: "It's terrible what the swans around here have got to put up with.

"The poor dad was just standing there, looking at this awful insult.

"Probably hoping that the wee ones don't notice it."

The capital's swans are a major concern to residents who like to keep and eye on them as cygnets begin to appear on the city's waterways.

One Edinburgh local, Caroline Tait, has even made a point of visiting one swan couple throughout lockdown.

Naming the pair Brighid and Siegfried, she managed to snap adorable photos of their fluffy newborns while out on her government-sanctioned walk.
