Raging Celtic fan terrorised neighbours with machete after Brendan Rodgers quit

A Celtic fan lost the plot - after going into a mood because Brendan Rodgers left the club.

Craig Docherty drowned his sorrows on the day ex-manager Rodgers quit Parkhead to become Leicester City boss.

He later left his flat in Rutherglen , near Glasgow on February 26 and started thumping on the door of neighbours John and Susan Fleming.

The 38 year-old branded Susan a "f*****g cow" - leading to the worried couple calling police.

Raging Docherty went on to kick an officer after it was discovered he was also armed with a machete.

It lead to him today being jailed for 34 months at Glasgow Sheriff Court .

His lawyer Craig Grimes told the hearing: "He said he was upset at the time, as unfortunately for him, Brendan Rodgers left his team Celtic that day.

"He then started drinking heavily into the evening."

The court earlier heard how Docherty rolled up to the Flemings door around 10pm.
Prosecutor Craig Farrell said: "He began to shout and called Mrs Fleming a 'f*****g cow'.

"She closed the door and Docherty then rattled the letterbox.

"He repeatedly banged the door and challenged the couple to a fight."

The Flemings dialled 999 - as Docherty returned to his flat to grab a machete.

Officers eventually found him close to the scene with the blade hidden down his trousers.

He was held, but then lashed out at police.

Mr Farrell said: “Docherty kicked one of the officers on the calf.

“He then needed to be restrained on the ground using straps.”

Docherty pled guilty to being threatening to his neighbours, possession of a blade and assaulting a police officer.

Sheriff Paul Crozier said: “This is a hideous item to have on you.

“You had on your person when drunk - who knows what you could have done with it.”
