Rage Against the Machine: Trump fans lampooned for playing 'Killing in the Name'

Supporters of Donald Trump are being lampooned after campaigning for his re-election by dancing and rapping to Rage Against the Machine.

A video filmed in Philadelphia shows a few Republicans playing "Killing in the Name" while wearing Trump caps and waving flags emblazoned with the phrase “Blue Lives Matter".

Blue Lives Matter is a countermovement pushing to sentence those who kill law enforcement officers under hate crime statuses.

These Republicans have since become the source of vitriol for choosing that particular song considering the 1992 was written in opposition of institutional racism and brutality at the hands of the police in American.

With this in mind, many frustrated Rage Against the Machine fans shared the video on Twitter, stating that these people were "missing the point" of the lyrics. Even guitarist Tom Morello has responded.

“HOW ARE YOU LISTENING TO RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE AND BE A PART OF THE MACHINE?!” one confused tweeter wrote.

Another said: "Reminds me that some people just don’t hear lyrics."

A further tweet called it "irony at its finest" with another stating: “This has to be the most hilarious self own in a looong loong time.”

The song featured on the group’s self-titled debut album.

Recently, other Republicans were similarly sent up for playing Bruce Springsteen track "Born in the USA" outside of the hospital Trump was staying at while recovering from Covid-19.

The song is widely believed to be a critique of America for marginalising working-class veterans upon their return to the homeland.

Adding to the embarrassment of the blunder was the fact that the hospital Trump was at, Walter Reed, is a military hospital.

The US 2020 presidential election is still yet to have an official winner declared, but Joe Biden has overtaken Trump in several key states.
