Rafael van der Vaart warns Holland international against Everton transfer

Dutch star Steven Berghuis has been told to remain at Feyenoord and turned down potential suitors, with Everton used as an example by Rafael Van der Vaart.

The forward has scored 22 times this season and also provided 11 assists which has put him in the shop window.

Everton haven't expressed any interested in the 28-year-old but they will look to back Carlo Ancelotti in the transfer market.

Berghuis harbours hopes of a "dream move", according to De Volkskrant, but has been urged to remain with the Eredivisie outfit if he wants to retain any hopes of playing for the Netherlands.

“I think he should stay with Feyenoord. He is the man there, the team is built around him,” Van der Vaart said.

“Do you have to go to Everton when you are almost 29 or something? If you don’t play well there twice, they will set up a clumsy Englishman and you will be out of the picture, also with Oranje [national team].”

Everton had undergone a resurgence under the Italian manager before a reality check of three winless games.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has found his goalscoring touch under Ancelotti while Richarlison continues to be a threat.

But Everton have not had an out and out goalscorer at Goodison Park since Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian's exit was secured by super agent Mino Raiola in 2017 before the two split last year and it is the Italian negotiator who represents Berghuis

“He is a good guy who knows exactly what he wants," Raiola said about his Dutch client.

"Maybe a late bloomer, but his potential is great and he is already the best player in the league. Not only in recent months, but already before that."
