Rafael Nadal to withdraw from Wimbledon as Nick Kyrgios to be given bye to final

Rafael Nadal is expected to withdraw from Wimbledon after he called a press conference on Thursday evening.

The Spaniard battled past Taylor Fitz in their thrilling quarter-final clash but the French Open winner has been plagued by injuries in the run up to the match.

A semi-final date with Nick Kyrgios was booked in but it appears Nadal will not play in his semi-final.

The Spaniard battled to a five-set victory over Taylor Fritz in his quarter-final despite struggling with an abdominal problem and said afterwards he would seek medical advice before deciding whether to take on Nick Kyrgios in the semi-finals on Friday.

While playing on Wednesday, Nadal's coach, and Uncle, Tony, urged the Spaniard to retire but the 36-year-old heroically battled on.

Spanish media later reported Nadal had suffered a seven millimetre tear to his abdominal muscle and it appears the Spaniard has decided not to continue. It means Kyrgios will face the winner of either Cam Norrie or Novak Djokovic in the final on Sunday.
