Rafael Nadal meets ball girl after hitting her in face with tennis shot at Australian Open

Rafael Nadal has met the ball girl he accidentally hit with a shot at the Australian Open.

A wild forearm return from the world no.1 hit young Anita in the forehead during his second-round win over Federicio Delbonis. Both players quickly went over to the 13-year-old to check on her, before Nadal gave her a kiss on the cheek.

Nadal met up with Anita, and her brother and parents, the following day and posed for a selfie with the young fan.

He wrote on Instagram: "Very happy to see that Anita is doing well. I also had the chance to meet her, her brother Mark and parents. Thank you."

Anita told Australian news out Channel Nine: "I was extremely excited because I had finally gotten to meet my favourite tennis player like really close up.

"I can't believe it. He's my favourite tennis player so I never expected this at all.

"He asked me if I was okay and we just talked about how he was going.

"It was just so nice to meet him and to talk to him and he gave me this hat that says 'To my friend Anita, all the best'."
