In the 2019 French Open final, Nadal defeated Dominic Thiem in four sets at Roland-Garros. They also met in the finals in 2018, with Nadal winning.

After watching Thiem’s final shot land out of bounds, Nadal fell to his back on the clay and stretched out his arms and legs in a moment of emotion. The overhead shot on TV was epic, with Nadal’s bright green shirt contrasting with the red clay. When he stood — covered in clay — he began to cry, and embraced his opponent before enjoying in the applause of those in attendance. He then accepted the trophy for the 12th time.

Here’s a look at the final point and Nadal’s emotional reaction.
