Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz to play for Spain in Olympic doubles

Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz, both from Spain, will join forces to compete in the doubles event at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, according to an announcement made by the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) on Wednesday.

While Nadal has previously won an Olympic gold medal in 2008, the Paris Games will mark Alcaraz's debut at the prestigious event. The young sensation recently triumphed at Roland Garros, securing his first French Open title on Sunday.

Despite concerns about Nadal's fitness due to recent injuries, the 38-year-old veteran will partner with the 21-year-old rising star, as confirmed by national team coach David Ferrer.

"One pair, which I think everyone knows and was hoping for is Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal and the second pair is yet to be decided, it hasn't been 100% confirmed yet," Ferrer told reporters.

"We'll wait a bit before announcing that. But Rafa and Carlos will be playing together in Paris."

The Spanish tennis team for the upcoming Paris Olympics has been announced, with Pablo Carreno Busta and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina joining the squad.

Additionally, Marcel Granollers, currently holding the world number two ranking in doubles, has also been included in the team.
