Rafael Fernandes pens heartfelt Rangers message despite difficult loan spell

Rafael Fernandes has sent an emotional thank you message to Rangers and their fans despite enduring a difficult loan spell.

The Lille centre-back arrived as Gers' only January signing amid a need for defensive reinforcements with several stars injured and others struggling for form.

It didn't quite go according to plan with Fernandes making just three Premiership appearances and four in all competitions. He was hooked after 20 minutes of his only league start against Aberdeen.

Injuries played their part in making things difficult for the 22-year-old but he also failed to convince during the minutes he did get on the park.

However, he has let none of that diminish his experience and his thoughts on the club, where he has been accepted with warmth and made to feel part of a family.

As he heads back to France, Fernandes has sent a heartfelt message to Rangers and the fans.

He wrote: "I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitidue for the opportunity to be part of such a massive and historic club.

"From the very first day I arrived I was treated with respect, kindness and warmth - something I'll never forget.

"Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. An injury cut my season short and prevented me from contributing in the way I had hoped.

"I truly wish the outcome had been different but sometimes that's just how football is - unpredictable and challenging.

"Still, I leave with a full heart and nothing but appreciation for my time here. To the fans, my teammates, the staff and everyone involved with the club - thank you for the trust, the support and making me feel part of the Rangers family.

"Thank you Rangers. Forever grateful."
