Rafael Benitez has revealed he wants another managerial job in the Premier League, with Tottenham looking for a new boss.
Jose Mourinho was sacked by Spurs around two and a half weeks ago, and football.london understands that the club are hopeful of appointing a new manager by the end of the season.
Ryan Mason has taken temporary charge of the north London club and has made a positive start, especially in the league, but external names continue to be linked.
Benitez is one of the names listed as a possible Mourinho replacement by leading bookmakers and he has now revealed what he wants to do in the near future.
The Spaniard has been out of a job since leaving Chinese side Dalian Professional earlier this year.
Speaking on Sky Sports News' 'Inside Football', the former Chelsea and Liverpool boss said: “I’m trying to be ready because the priority is England, the Premier League.
"My family is here, I like the style of football here. I’ll try to be ready here. I’m watching the Serie A, Italian football, because I think that’s also a good league for me. But watching France, Germany or Spain, I don’t see too many options with these countries to have a team that you can compete, or a project where you can develop players and improve players, and you can make the team more competitive.
"Obviously, in Italy, or in England, the priorities are to compete or to develop players, create something special that the fans will love."
football.london has been informed that the brief for Tottenham's ideal next boss is that they must be progressive, attack-minded, favouring possession-based football and most importantly fit into the club's culture.
Benitez, throughout his managerial career, has never focused too much on possession-based football but does like his sides to be pragmatic in defence.
