Rafa Benitez warns Newcastle United players to take chances or they will be punished by Liverpool

Rafa Benitez admits that Newcastle United could be at their very best against Liverpool and STILL lose the game.

However, he insists that there will be no favours on offer for the Reds - despite his links with the men from Anfield.

United's season started poorly as they flunked against the top six sides, but since then they have recovered and even managed to beat the champions Manchester City in January.

Looking ahead to the game against Jurgen Klopp's side, Benitez said: "Our season has been special because we didn’t start well against top sides.

"But little by little we have improved and we are better at home than away now.

"We were lucky enough to stop City at home.

"But like City, Liverpool are favourites.

"We will have our chances, but even if we are at our best they might win.

"We have to take our chances."

When asked if his emotions would be swayed towards Liverpool's need for a victory, he simply replied: "We are professional and have to do our job.

"My relationship with the city of Liverpool, the club and the fans is there.

"At the same time, I have been to play Liverpool with Chelsea, with Newcastle, and we have to do our job."
