Rafa Benitez to Celtic odds slashed as Newcastle boss backed for Hoops job

Bookies have slashed odds on Rafa Benitez becoming Celtic's next permanent boss.

The Newcastle manager faces an uncertain future at St James' Park and punters have placed a flurry of bets on him becoming Brendan Rodgers' permanent successor.

Neil Lennon took interim charge following Rodgers' sudden departure to Leicester City and he remains the 10/11 favourite.

But, according to Ladbrokes, all bets between Tuesday and Wednesday morning have been placed on Benitez.

And the market has responded with the Spaniard's odds tumbling from 20/1 to just 5/1 to take over at Celtic next season.

Benitez has managed some of Europe's top clubs, including Liverpool and Real Madrid after making his name at Valencia.

He's been in charge at Newcastle since March 2016 and guided the club back to the Premier League the following season.

It's been reported that contract talks between Benitez and Newcastle are currently gridlocked as the 58-year-old ponders his future.

Benitez has won a host of trophies across his career, including the Champions League, Europa League and its former incarnation the UEFA Cup.

He's also captured the FA Cup with Liverpool, two La Liga crowns with Valencia, the Coppa Italia at Napoli and the FIFA Club World Cup at Inter Milan.
