Rafa Benitez to Celtic latest as manager breaks his silence on next move and lays out club criteria

Rumoured Celtic manager target Rafa Benitez has announced he'll only take a job in Europe as he ruled out a lucrative posting in the Middle East.

The Spaniard has been touted as a potential replacement for Neil Lennon and his CV would be sure to excite supporters.

Benitez has worked at some of the biggest clubs in the world, winning trophies in Spain, England and Italy.

He's also lifted three European trophies, including the Champions League in 2005.

And speaking on radio station Onda Cero the 60-year-old laid out the criteria for his next club.

Benitez explained: "I've had so many offers in recent weeks, from South America to the Emirates, but that's not what I'm looking for.

"I want to stay in Europe and I want to do so to be competitive at a high level.

"I'm looking for a project that will allow me to be competitive and with time and space to grow."

Benitez has been heavily linked with a return to Napoli, but he refused to be drawn on those rumours.

Pressed about the Serie A side he said: "Don't drag words out of my mouth that I don't want to say and can't say.

"It's better if I don't speak about it.

"But I have a great relationship with the people of Naples and I still follow the team."
