Rafa Benitez stance confirmed as Ashley Williams lifts lid on 'frosty' Everton dressing room

Your Everton morning digest for Saturday, June 19.

Everton Rafa Benitez new manager stance confirmed

Rafa Benitez remains the front-runner in Everton's search for a new manager despite fan backlash to his potential appointment.

As the Blues head into the weekend, they are continuing to assess all candidates and a decision on who will replace Carlo Ancelotti is not expected until early next week.

Farhad Moshiri is aware of supporter feeling towards the possible hiring of Benitez but, at this stage, the former Liverpool boss continues to be seen as the favourite to land the Blues top job.

Nuno Espirito Santo - who was in pole position at this point seven days ago - remains on Everton's shortlist with other managers, including Graham Potter and Roberto Martinez.

Williams lifts the lid on 'frosty' Everton dressing room reaction

Ashley Williams has lifted the lid on how Everton was the "worst dressing room for him to walk into" following his move from Swansea City.

Williams moved to Merseyside in the summer of 2016 and quickly established himself as a regular in Ronald Koeman's side.

The former Wales international made 73 appearances across his three-year spell with the club, with his last season as an Everton player being spent on loan with Stoke City.

But before his arrival at Goodison Park, Williams had already established himself as a somewhat controversial figure in the game due to his on-field approach.

And the former defender has now revealed how that approach before joining the club meant it wasn’t all smiles when he first stepped foot into the Everton dressing room.
