Rafa Benitez shuts down TV reporter when asked about his future during trip to Spain

Rafa Benitez has refused to speak about his contract situation at Newcastle United.

The Toon boss is in Spain and has been interviewed about the Champions League final which takes place on Saturday night.

Benitez's contract expires on June 30 and fresh discussions on an extension started on May 17.

Back then Benitez met face-to-face with Magpies' owner Mike Ashley in London but did not come to an agreement with dialogue since taking place over the telephone and via email.

Sky Sports reporter Paul Gilmour posted on Twitter: "We did push on the Newcastle United contract situation and takeover but he didn’t want to answer."

Benitez's situation has been plunged into fresh doubt with talk of a Middle East takeover raising new questions on whether he would be the choice of a new owner.

A statement from the Bin Zayed Group sent to the media yesterday read: "Terms have been agreed between us and Mike Ashley; these terms have been reflected in a document, signed by both parties, which has been forwarded to the Premier League.

"The proof of funds statement was forwarded to Mike Ashley’s lawyers on 17 April 2019."
