Rafa Benitez shows his class with good luck message to Newcastle United and Steve Bruce

Rafa Benitez has sent Newcastle United and new manager Steve Bruce a classy good luck message ahead of their first game of the season.

Just hours before the Magpies host Arsenal in their first game of the new Premier League campaign, former boss Benitez used his personal blog to send a good luck message for the season ahead.

Benitez, who left the club this summer to join Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang, wrote simply: "At the start of the Premier League season, I would like to wish Steve Bruce, all the players and the fans good luck."

The Spaniard left the club this summer, frustrated with the ambition shown by the club. It has led to calls from supporters to boycott games, frustrated with the club's direction under owner Mike Ashley.

But Benitez had previously called for fans to back new boss Bruce.

He wrote last week: "There’s nothing wrong with thinking about the past, but it’s also important to look to the future.

“For this reason, all I have left to say is that I truly wish the team and Steve Bruce the best for the following season.”

Boyhood Toon fan Bruce has a difficult start to life as Newcastle boss with games against Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, Man Utd and Chelsea in his opening ten games. He appreciates he won't be afforded much patience, however, and will be hoping to make a quick impression with some positive results and performances.
