Rafa Benitez sends Nicolas Pepe warning after his heroics inspire Arsenal comeback

Rafa Benitez has warned Nicolas Pepe he has to maintain his form in Arsenal's next match or face losing his confidence again.

Pepe, who has struggled to justify his £72million price tag so far this season, was the difference for the Gunners in their 3-1 win over West Ham at London Stadium on Monday night.

The Ivory Coast international inspired a sensational Arsenal comeback against the Hammers with a goal and an assist.

The winger appeared to be brimming with confidence by the end of the match, but Benitez has warned he has to follow this performance up next week or he'll lose momuntum.

"He will play with more confidence for sure, but after two or three games if he doesn't do something more then you lose the confidence quickly," Benitez said on Sky Sports.

"So it's important for him to have this confidence and for the rest of the team to believe that he can make the difference in games.

"But he has to do that in the next game or he will lose it quickly."

Arsenal's next match is against Manchester City, and interim boss Freddie Ljunberg will be looking for his entire team to raise their game against the champions - not just Pepe.

Reflecting on the win over West Ham, the Swede said: "It means so much for the players. They have been living under enormous pressure and you see it in their performances. I could feel West Ham getting tired and our passing getting crisper. The boys did amazing.

"The players responded to the early setbacks and dealt with it. We tried to play and the boys stepped up in the second half. They worked so hard and that's something we talked about.

"This is down to the players. I'm just there to guide them.

"You can see the players have been a bit low and you see in the dressing room the relief and how happy they are. We enjoy tonight and we continue working tomorrow. We have to work on our belief - that was the difference.

"It's a great feeling and it's a lot better to win than lose. We shouldn't get carried away."
