Rafa Benitez's talks with Newcastle United chiefs go into second day

Rafa Benitez talks with the Newcastle United hierarchy have gone into a second day.

The Toon boss opened up the discussions with the club’s top brass yesterday in London following the conclusion of the 2018/19 campaign.

Benitez wants assurances ahead of the summer transfer window when it comes to flexibility with the age range of players.

He is also trying to get Salomon Rondon signed up on a permanent basis after the striker returned to West Bromwich Albion following a successful loan deal.

The price for Rondon is set for £16.5million with his clause now active after West Brom failed to win promotion.

However, Wolverhampton Wanderers have now entered the race to sign the South American star.

With Benitez’s future still unclear, a number of player contract negotiations have been put on hold, including Sean Longstaff, DeAndre Yedlin and Matt Ritchie.

Many of the players have gone public with their pleas for United to get the deal done and dusted so that preparations for next season can continue.
