Rafa Benitez's 'priority' is to stay at Newcastle United despite big money offers to go abroad

Rafa Benitez's first choice is to stay at Newcastle United despite receiving mega-money offers to manage abroad.

The Spaniard's contract on Tyneside is up on June 30th, and despite both the club hierarchy and manager admitting they want to see a new deal to be signed, the future of Benitez at Newcastle is far from certain.

The 59-year-old has been linked to the Celtic job, and has reportedly received offers of €10 million-per-year to manage in Saudi Arabia and China.

But football expert Guillem Balague believes Benitez is determined to stay at Newcastle - if he gets the backing from Lee Charnley and Mike Ashley.

"The priority is to stay at Newcastle ," Balague said on his YouTube channel when asked about interest from Celtic.

"The kind of offers that he got, which are like €10million net a year, come from Saudi Arabia and from China which I don’t think are the places he should go next.

"The battle is to stay at Newcastle, if he gets enough support.

"If he doesn’t stay at Newcastle I think the Premier League will be the competition he would like to stay in. I think that will be the target.

"Another matter is which club will actually go for him. I don’t believe there’s been offers yet in that department. But that’s where it all stands – he wants to stay in the Premier League.

"The Premier League is his big target."

It is understood that a contract offer had been made to Benitez but the two parties remain apart on certain things, in particular the age of incoming transfers.
