Rafa Benitez reveals where his next job will be amid Nottingham Forest links

Nottingham Forest-linked manager Rafael Benitez has revealed that he is looking for a job in Europe after turning down offers from elsewhere.

The former Liverpool, Everton and Newcastle United boss is one of the names to be linked with Forest amid questions being asked about the future of Steve Cooper. Pressure was piled onto the Reds manager on Monday night following a 4-0 loss against Leicester City, which left them bottom of the table.

Just hours after the defeat at the King Power Stadium, reports claimed that Benitez was ‘in the frame’ to replace Cooper at the City Ground. Forest were said to be considering making a change before next week’s game against Aston Villa.

It now however seems that the club has taken the decision to stick with the manager who led them to promotion for the first time in 23 years last season. Forest are though set to make changes with former Watford man Filippo Giraldi taking the role of Sporting Director.

Amid the links to Forest, Benitez has now spoken about his desire to return to football and the sort of club he is looking for. The Spaniard has been out of work since leaving Everton back in January.

“Of course I would like to be back on the pitch when great international football is being played,” he told Kicker . “I love my job, i.e. developing the players, measuring myself against others and above all: winning. I know how to do it.

“There were actually such offers (from China), but I turned them down because I now prefer to work in Europe. And because money is not the most important thing, but success with the team. If that fits, I'll take over another club in Europe.”
